Will this zine be physical?
No, this zine will be digital only and released online for free. We may make flat physical merch, and there will be an announcement if we decide to do so.
What content will be in this zine?
Contributors will make an illustration, merch, or a story based off an English vocaloid song of their choice. They may be inspired by the song's lyrics, visuals, or themes.
Are vocal synths from program other than Vocaloid allowed?
We are using Vocaloid as an umbrella term so synths from all programs are allowed.
Will English songs produced by non-English producers be accepted?
Yes, as long as the song is in English (made by anyone) or made by a Western producer (in any language), it will be allowed!
How are songs picked?
Applicants will submit at least 3 songs (4 for page artists) when initially applying that they would like to create for. We will pick one of those songs when selecting accepted contributors. We aim to have a mix of both new and old songs, as well as popular and underground songs.
How many people may choose a specific song?
We will be limiting it to one person per song! We would like to showcase as many songs as possible and won't be allowing duplicates for that reason. This only applies within a creative role though, the same song may be chosen by an artist, merch artist, and writer.
Do I need prior expereince to apply?
Contributors do not need to have previous zine experience; we will be selecting contributors based on portfolio only.
For mods, we will not be requiring it* but it will be something we take into consideration. If you do not have any zine experience, we encourage explaining other experiences in working with large numbers of people and/or giving feedback. We may also include an intern mod role if you have no experience but would like to learn.
*The exception is social media mod, previous experience in running a zine account will be required for that position.
Is there any age requirements?
TBD in the interest check! We are currently leaning towards 16+ for all mods and contributors, but this may change depending on responses. The determination will be added here and in applications.
How many contributors will you be accepting?
While this will depend on the number of interest check responses and contributor applications, our current limit is 35 page artists, 10 merch artists, and 7 writers. This may get increased based on number of application and our mod's comfortability with handling more contributors.
What will be expected of contributor portfolios?
- Page Artists: 5-10 pieces, 3 or more of which must have a full background. We will be evaluating them based on anatomy, color, and composition.
- Merch Artists: 5-10 pieces, 2 or more of which must be for the merch type(s) you are applying for. We will be evaluating them based on anatomy, color, and character-focused compostions.
- Writers: 4+ works, at least 1 must be in the length range that you are applying for. (If you are applying for multiple, you must have examples for each.) Excepts are accepted, but at least 1 work must be complete. We will be evaluating them based on pacing, characterization, and storytelling.
